Find the part of the page that is affected
On a bug, open the page it belongs to and find the exact spot that failed.
Plans. Starter, Plus, Business, and Pro. The browser extension is free for everyone, including people without a SiteScan account.
- Visit page opens that page on your website in a new tab. Use it to see the problem in place.
- Open page report keeps you in SiteScan, on the report for that page.
- Open the page in the bug if it appears on more than one URL. Each page lists the instances: the spots on that page where the check failed.
- Read Location. That is the place in the page, written so a developer can find it.
- Open View HTML snippet when you need the markup SiteScan stored for that spot.
The snippet is a copy from the last scan. If the website has changed since then, check the page again before you treat the snippet as current.
Use the browser extension to highlight the spot
The SiteScan browser extension is optional. It is free in Chrome and Microsoft Edge. It does not change or publish the website. Install it from the Chrome Web Store (opens in a new tab).
- Open the affected page in Chrome or Edge. A staging page is fine if you can open it in the browser.
- Open the AccessUX tab on the edge of the page, then open PageScan Inspector.
- Open the finding. Choose Highlight to mark that part of the page, or Code to see the markup beside it.
Highlight is the fastest way to show a designer or developer the exact control, heading, or image. The extension checks the page you are looking at. It does not replace the scan of your page list.
Fix the bug
Now that you know what is wrong, you can fix it. Some bugs can be quickly fixed in your content management system; others may need more time and resources. If you are not the person who will fix it and someone in your team is, hand the bug to them. You can add a comment to the bug to explain what you found. If you're not sure how to fix it, you can get help from an AccessUX accessibility expert. See Add a bug for details on adding comments and asking for help.
