Some ABC achievements

Organisation-wide accessibility transformation

The ABC is Australia's most trusted source of news and current affairs, lifestyle and entertainment with products for web, mobile and smart TV apps. As Digital Accessibility Lead at the ABC, Gerry drove an organisation‑wide transformation of accessibility practice, elevating it from a compliance obligation to a core value embedded in every stage of digital delivery. He introduced modern, scalable processes and tools for inclusive design, development, and testing; equipped cross‑functional teams with targeted training and hands‑on support; and cultivated a culture where accessibility is now a natural, expected part of how ABC designs and builds its digital products and services.

Audio descriptions on ABC TV

Gerry spearheaded the creation of Australia’s first audio description service on broadcast TV, designed to “complete the picture” for people who are blind or have low vision. Before this service, audiences depended on others to explain what was happening on screen. Now they can enjoy television independently through a dedicated audio narrative that describes key visual moments. In 2023 he oversaw the project's extension to ABC iview across mobile devices and smart TV platforms.

triple j Hottest 100

Every year, millions of Australians take part in the Triple J Hottest 100, the nation’s biggest music poll. Gerry worked closely with triple j to make sure this fast‑paced, interactive voting experience was fully accessible to music lovers across Australia.

Accessible ICT Procurement toolkit

In 2025 Gerry led the development of a groundbreaking, award-winning, accessible ICT procurement framework that helps the ABC choose digital tooling for all staff to use.

Our accessibility commitment

At AccessUX, inclusive design is at the core of everything we do. We are committed to ensuring our own digital presence meets WCAG 2.2 Level AA standards, and we continuously work to improve the accessibility of our website and services.

We believe that accessibility is an ongoing practice, not a one-time checkbox. Our team regularly reviews and tests our content to identify and address barriers. If you encounter any accessibility issues on our site, we welcome your feedback — please get in touch and let us know.
