What it means

When text requires reading ability more advanced than lower secondary education, provide a simplified summary or version — unless the content is a proper name or is clearly marked as requiring that level. AAA promotes plain language.

This is about supplemental simpler content, not dumbing down essential legal text without reason.

How to fix it

• Add plain-language summaries for complex policy or medical content.
• Offer an “Easy read” version where your audience needs it.
• Use readability tools to flag dense sections.
• Keep essential legal meaning but explain it in everyday words nearby.
