What it means

Prerecorded video with sound should also provide sign language interpretation so users who rely on sign language get equivalent content. The interpreter is usually shown in a separate window or picture-in-picture.

This is an AAA requirement — go beyond captions when your audience needs sign language.

How to fix it

• Record or commission a sign language interpretation of the full message.
• Show the interpreter visibly without covering important on-screen content.
• Let users choose the signed version from the same page as the original video.
• Keep the signed video in sync with the same content as the main recording.

Quick examples

• Good: A public health video offers a side-by-side Auslan interpretation track.
• Bad: Important policy video has captions only — no sign language option.
• Good: Users pick “Sign language version” from a clear list next to the player.
• Bad: A tiny interpreter inset covers the main subtitles and cannot be resized.
