SiteScan browser plugin privacy

This page is for people who install the AccessUX SiteScan plugin from the Chrome Web Store (Chrome and Edge). It says what the plugin looks at, what stays on your device, and what we do not do.

Who we are

One job

The plugin has one job: help you check the accessibility of the web page you are looking at. It can draw a small tab, badges, and highlights in your browser, and run checks when you open a tool.

What Chrome’s warning means

Chrome may say the plugin can “read and change data on websites.” That is Chrome’s phrase for drawing on top of the page in your browser. We cannot rewrite Chrome’s sentence.

In plain words:

  • We draw overlays on the page you already have open, in this browser only.
  • We do not edit the website, save files to it, or publish anything.
  • When you close the tools, the page looks as it did before.

What we do not do

  • We do not record your browsing history.
  • We do not scan every site you visit in the background.
  • We do not sell your information or use it for ads.
  • We do not change or publish the live website.

Checks on your device

When you open a tool (for example PageScan Inspector, headings, or colour contrast), the plugin reads the current page in your browser so it can check it and draw badges. In this first version, that page content stays on your device. It is not sent to AccessUX.

The plugin only looks at a page when you choose a tool, or later — if you sign in — when that page is already on your SiteScan page list and you open the plugin there.

What we store on your device

We may store your WCAG filter choice (version and level) in this browser so you do not have to set it every time. That setting stays on your device. You can remove it by removing the plugin.

If you sign in later

This first version does not need a SiteScan account. You can use the free tools without signing in.

A later update may let you sign in once. That login is the same as the SiteScan website. Sign-in happens on accessux.com.au, not as a separate password box that only exists in the plugin.

If you sign in and choose to save work, we may then send:

  • the address of the page you asked to save or scan
  • scan results you keep in SiteScan
  • bugs you add, including a screenshot you attach

We still do not scan every site in the background. Account data is then handled as SiteScan account data, as described on the AccessUX privacy statement.

Permissions

At install we ask for as little as Chrome allows for a page you click to check: permission to work on the current tab after you open the plugin, and permission to remember your WCAG filters in this browser.

We do not ask to run on all websites at install. If a later version offers “keep the tab on this website,” that is optional, asked at the time, and you can turn it off.

Your rights

You may ask to see, correct, or delete personal information we hold. We will respond in line with the Australian Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). Email privacy@accessux.au.

If you only used the free tools and never signed in, we will not have an AccessUX account for you. Removing the plugin from Chrome or Edge deletes the settings stored in that browser.

Changes

If the plugin starts to collect more, we will update this page and the Chrome Web Store listing before that version is published. The date at the top is when this wording was last changed.
